Hula Hoopla Podcast Interviews Philo Hagen
It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a new Hula Hoopla Podcast so we were delighted to hear that hostess Paige Tashner of HulaHoopla.com has not only spun up a new episode, but her subject for her latest one got us even more excited. An interview with Hooping.org’s Co-founder and Managing Editor Philo Hagen, with more than a dozen years of hooping under his belt he certainly has tales to tell. Paige recently sat down with Philo at Hoopcamp 2015 and it turned out to be a conversation she’s “still giddy about it.”

Paige tells listeners, “There is a lot of history in this conversation. Last year at Hoopcamp he and I had a little early morning bonding because he had been rained out of his tent and I needed coffee. We sat on the front porch of the dining hall in the rain and just talked. I definitely felt a bit like a fan girl around him. And why not?! But he is warm and sweet and funny as hell. My favorite MC hands down!” The relationship between these two spins back to her very first hooping experience too back in 2009. “He was the very first hooper I met walking toward my first hooping experience – The Northwest Hoop Gathering. Held in Bend, Oregon, in 2009, we walked side by side and I asked him if he’d ever been to something like this before and he said he hadn’t been to that one.”

“I totally remember meeting Paige in the parking lot,” Philo recalled. “That very first Northwest Hoop Gathering was billed as an Evolution of Flow too, so I didn’t really know what we were in for. I drove up from San Francisco to teach my ‘Legs! Legs! Legs!’ class and was feeling a little nervous when I saw her in the parking lot with her hoops so I went over and said hello.” Paige explained, “I was brand new to the hooping world and didn’t know who he was or what I was about to experience when I walked into that gymnasium full of hoopers. Mind blown. Life changed forever. Philo was there at the beginning of my hoop journey. I’m not the only one.”
Her interview with Philo spins us back to the early days of the hooping movement, the start of hooping.org, the evolution of hooping and finding your own place in it. Give the new Hula Hoopla Podcast episode a listen and enjoy.
